"Commitment towards a World Class University, FT UNY Sends Lecturer for Robotic Training to Singapore"
The improvement of Human Resources (HR) quality, especially lecturers, is the main focus of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Education, Faculty of Engineering, Yogyakarta State University. The Department of Mechanical Engineering Education sent one of its lecturers, Aulia Majid, S.T., M.Eng., to participate in the Specialist Skills Upgrading training: "Robotic and Smart System" held from June 24 to July 5, 2024. The training was organized by ITE Education Services (ITEES) Singapore with support from Temasek Foundation and SEAMEO VOCTECH. This training activity was attended by 20 selected participants from various Southeast Asian countries including Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and Timor Leste.
Training Event Opening
he training activity began with an opening by Mr. Bruce Poh, Chief Executive Officer of ITE, and an introduction to the ITE Singapore campus environment. After the introduction, the first material was presented by Mr. Dai Peilong on Industry 4.0 robots. This material was taught as an initial foundation before conducting simulation training and direct practice during the first week. Industrial robot simulations began to be applied on the second day, where participants were required to perform simulations to move the robot according to their needs. This material was presented until Wednesday, June 26, 2024. On the fourth day, a new material on collaborative robotics was presented by Mr. Muhd Hafiz, aimed at shortening industrial work with efficient and fast time.
Industrial and Collaborative Robotics Training
The supporting robots at ITE College are very advanced, making it easier for participants to absorb and directly practice new knowledge. On Friday, June 28, 2024, mobile robotics became the last material in the first week presented by Mr. Dai Peilong and Mr. Mohd Hafiz. Mobile robotics have been used in Singapore as transport tools for trash within buildings, floor cleaners, and others. The material taught on mobile robotics included how to code to move mobile robotics, perform room mapping by mobile robotics, and create room maps for mobile robotics.
Introduction to Mobile Robotics
The second week began with Smart Systems material consisting of an explanation of smart sensor tools, hardware setup, and wireless communication, PLC software applications, programming smart sensors with PLC, and performing sensor data analysis. This material, taught by Mr. Adam Wong, was conducted over two days. On Wednesday, July 3 to Thursday, July 4, 2024, Ms. Tew Ai Tin provided new material on the computer vision system. Participants absorbed a lot of knowledge on how sensors identify an image/photo, how to create sensor flow for easy identification of images/photos, and how to configure vision sensors. The material in the second week complemented the first week where the sensors taught could be applied to various systems/tools, including robots.
Smart and Vision System Training
Friday, July 5, 2024, was the last day of training where participants were given the task to present their activities and the benefits of the knowledge gained during the training. Aulia Majid, S.T., M.Eng., gave a presentation on the benefits of robots and smart sensor systems as support for industrial needs in Indonesia. When the last participant had finished presenting their task, the training event was officially closed with the awarding of diplomas and closing statements from representatives of Temasek Foundation, SEAMEO VOCTECH, and ITEES Singapore.
